About Acacia Path Advisory
Melbourne-based franchise readiness consultants working with Australian owner-operators since 2014.
Official business details
Registered name: Acacia Path Advisory Pty Ltd
Established: 2014
Registered office: Office 7, 76 Placeholder Street, Melbourne VIC 00000
Acacia Path Advisory was founded in 2014 by Margaret Chen and James Whitfield after a decade of working inside franchise systems — Margaret as an operations director for a national food franchise, James as a territory planner for a retail chain expanding into regional Australia.
They started the firm because too many owners were signing franchise agreements before their operations could survive without them in the building every day.
What we do
We help Australian business owners answer one question honestly: can someone else run this business using your systems, training, and support structure?
That means reviewing operations on the ground, not just slide decks. It means building franchisee financial models from real invoices, not benchmark reports. It means telling you when you are six months away from readiness — and when you are two years away.
Our team
Margaret Chen — Lead consultant. Former operations director with experience across 40+ franchise locations in food service. Margaret leads readiness assessments and site visit work.
James Whitfield — Territory and expansion planning. Background in geographic analysis and franchise rollout sequencing for retail and personal services brands.
Priya Nair — Documentation and training pathway review. Former learning and development manager who has built franchise training programs for hospitality groups.
How we work with clients
We are consultants, not brokers. We do not take commissions from franchise sales and we do not recruit franchisees on your behalf. Our fees are fixed or scope-based, agreed before work begins.
Most engagements combine on-site observation with remote document review. We prefer to visit at least one operating location because the gap between written procedures and actual practice is where franchise systems succeed or fail.
Values
- Honesty over optimism — We would rather delay your launch by six months than watch you sign franchisees into a system that cannot support them.
- Operator perspective — We have managed P&Ls, hired store managers, and dealt with supplier failures. We speak your language, not consultant jargon.
- Australian context — Franchise law, labour markets, and rent structures differ from overseas models. We ground our advice in local conditions.
Community
We contribute pro bono readiness reviews to two social enterprise food businesses each year through our partnership with LaunchVic’s small business mentoring program.
